Art and Asanas: A Celebration of Creativity and Yoga in Rwanda

Yoga is becoming increasingly popular in Africa, and Rwanda is no exception. Yoga is slowly gaining ground in Kigali, Rwanda’s capital city, and is proving to be a powerful tool for wellness. One of the organizations leading the way in promoting yoga in Rwanda is LiveWell Rwanda, a wellness social enterprise based in Kigali.

Recently, Leah Nduati, the founder of Yoga Experiences Africa, had the opportunity to practice power yoga with the founders of LiveWell Rwanda at the Inshuti Gallery in Kigali.

The Inshuti Gallery is a contemporary art gallery in the heart of Kigali, run by Sam Kambali, a globally recognized visual artist. The gallery is where artists and art lovers gather to create, share, and appreciate art. It has also become a hub for wellness, where people can relax, unwind, and connect with their inner selves through yoga and meditation.

The power yoga class led by one of the LiveWell Rwanda teachers was challenging, fun, and energizing. It was held in the gallery’s beautiful indoor space, surrounded by stunning artworks that provided a unique and inspiring backdrop for the yoga practice. Watch how it went here

The combination of yoga and art in Kigali is a powerful one. Both yoga and art are forms of expression that allow individuals to connect with their inner selves. Combining the two creates a space where individuals can explore their physical, emotional, and spiritual selves and find balance and harmony.

LiveWell Rwanda is a social enterprise founded by two friends, Emmanuel Manirarira and Alexis Havugimana, to serve their communities through yoga, Qi Gong, meditation, and other mindfulness exercises. Their team of young Rwandans offers a wide range of wellness packages that include activities such as mountain hiking, camping, yoga retreats, community and nature walks, educational tours, art safaris, family tours, wellness retreats, city tours, hike+yoga tours, historical and cultural tours, and private yoga classes. They also provide public yoga classes at multiple venues in Kigali. A percentage of their income goes to community outreach programs where they train people on wellness, provide medicinal and fruit seedlings to communities around Rwanda, and encourage home gardening for food security.

If you’re in Kigali or planning a trip to Rwanda, check out LiveWell Rwanda and experience the power of yoga in Africa. Their commitment to wellness and social enterprise is inspiring, and their packages offer something for everyone.
