Imagine learning a new style of yoga in a new language and in a new country. That was Yoga Experiences Founder Leah Nduati in Lome, Togo.
Leah had the opportunity to experience Kundalini yoga for the first time with an experienced Kundalini practitioner and instructor – Conchita Taurel.
About the experience, Leah says, “Although I speak French, it takes some time for your mind to adjust to French instructions if it is not a language you use daily. Conchita was extremely accommodating and made sure to try and translate during my first class. For my second class, she challenged me to follow the french instructions, and surprisingly I was able to follow.”
“The Kundalini classes by Conchita had a psychedelic effect on me. From the chanting and pranayama to the warm-ups and strength poses that we held for a minute or more and finally the meditation. I found myself being able to hold meditation for longer than I usually would. At the end of the class, Conchita offered us a divine herbal yogi tea, which helped bring us back to reality.” Leah added.
Kundalini yoga is a form of yoga that involves chanting, singing, breathing exercises, and repetitive poses. Its purpose is to activate your Kundalini energy or shakti. This is a spiritual energy that’s said to be located at the base of your spine. As Kundalini yoga awakens this energy, it’s supposed to enhance your awareness and help you move past your ego. Sometimes, the practice is also called “yoga of awareness.”
